Frequently Asked Questions ...

What is Hot Mix Asphalt?

Hot Mix Asphalt is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or gravel bound together by  asphalt cement, a product of crude oil.

What is the process of paving?

The asphalt cement is heated, combined, and mixed with the aggregate at a hot mix asphalt facility.  It is then loaded into trucks and transported to the paving site.  The trucks dump the hot mix asphalt into a hopper located at the front of a paving machine.  The asphalt is spread, then compacted using a heavy roller which is driven over the asphalt.

What are some benefits of asphalt pavement?

Asphalt is safe and economical.  It is the longest lasting and most durable of all paving material.  It is also 100% recyclable!

When should I sealcoat my asphalt?

Generally, it takes 12 months for asphalt to cure.  Sealcoating should take place after that time.
